Nicodemus (Niko) was born April 11, 2017 5 days AFTER his due date and the night we had family flying into to town, but that is how it goes. Right? He is our very first goat to be born here and it was a pretty amazing experience to be a part of. For the 3 days before and the 5 days leading up to his birth I was a little crazy. Having never been around for a goat birth I wasn’t sure what to expect and I really didn’t want to miss it. My husband will tell you I was nuts. I will admit I was dreaming about baby goats by the end and bolted upright at 5 am one morning to run out to Mina’s stall because I was sure she had given birth in the night and I had missed the whole thing. That did not happen. Mina may have gone 5 days over what was expected but other than that her labor was pretty text-book. All the signs that I imagined were pre-labor really weren’t. When she went into full labor it was very obvious and at 7pm I called it and Niko was born 40 minutes later. She made quite a ruckus so there was no need to worry about not knowing she was in labor, especially because we had a baby monitor in the stall with her and I carried the receiver around with me everywhere. Mom and baby are doing great!
