March is right around the corner and April will be here in no time. These are some of the busiest months here because we are getting ready for Spring and all of the new arrivals that Springtime brings. With all of the warm weather we’ve been having I am dreaming of seedlings, and with the greenhouse it is possible for me to start planting now. The beds are prepped and ready, and just waiting for some lovely veggies to fill them. So that is on the to-do list for this weekend. Yay!
We jumped the gun a bit and got our new flock of baby chicks last week. I usually wait until it is warmer, but getting these girls this early means they should be laying well before the cold weather hits again. Having the barn and greenhouse means I still have plenty of places for them to stay warm and still get some sunshine as well. For more info on how to care for new chicks see my previous post on Chicks.
Finally, the event that we are on pins and needles over. Kidding season! It will be our very first, and as usual for this way of life, it won’t be a normal one. Our sweet pregnant doe was attacked a few months ago and is still recovering from this, I will write Mina’s story soon. She has beaten the odds (so far). She is my fighter, and it does not seem to have affected the baby growing inside of her but we can’t know that for sure. So, we will prepare for her birth, and plan for a new little kid to join our ever-growing clan on April 6th.
